HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR
Do not fear going forward slowly; fear only to stand still. - Chinese Proverb
Chinese New Year, also known as Lunar New Year is a celebration celebrated by the Chinese. There are fifteen days
of celebration but normally, the feast started the night before the first day of Lunar Calendar, which is known as
the reunion dinner.
Chinese New Year (Chinese: 春節, 春节, Chūnjíe; 農曆新年, 农历新年, Nónglì Xīnnián; or 過年, 过年, Guònián), also known as the Lunar New Year or the Spring Festival is the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays. It consists of a period of celebrations, starting on New Year’s Day, celebrated on the first day of the first month of the Chinese calendar, i.e. the day of the second new moon after the day on which the winter solstice occurs, unless there is an intercalary eleventh or twelfth month in the lead-up to the New Year—in such a case, the New Year falls on the day of the third new moon after the solstice. The Chinese New Year period ends with the Lantern Festival, the fifteenth day of the month.
What does Chinese New Year means? It is said that Chinese New Year brings the meaning of turning into a new leaf where all living creatures are reborn each time on the first day of the Lunar Calendar. Hence, Chinese New Year is
to celebrate the gone of the old and the coming of the new. With the New Year, celebrating Chinese customs and
traditions is celebrated widely with people pouring out money to buy gifts and sweeping of the house clean to get
rid of misfortunes. Windows and doors are decorated with red couplets with themes such as “wealth”, “longevity” and “happiness”.
May blessing and abundance be yours this Chinese New Year.
